The community of Brownsville, Minnesota is mourning the death of Teri Gaustad, a beloved mother, friend, and longtime community presence remembered for the warmth, laughter, and kindness she shared with everyone around her.
Originally from La Crescent, Minnesota, Teri built lasting connections through both her professional and personal life. She worked with Luther College in roles including Online Marketing Analyst, Sales and Customer Support Agent, and Purchasing Agent, where coworkers remembered her as someone who brightened daily life with her smile and generosity. Friends across the Lawrence Lake Marina community also recalled her constant positivity, welcoming hugs, and caring nature, with many affectionately referring to her as “Sunshine” and “Momma T.”
Tributes shared by family and friends painted the picture of a woman whose impact extended far beyond simple friendship. Her son Brett LaRue described her as “the best mother and nurturer,” while others remembered her for feeding marina crews after long days, checking in on loved ones, and making everyone feel valued and included. Many noted that summers at Lawrence Lake and everyday life in Brownsville will not feel the same without her presence.
As loved ones continue grieving this heartbreaking loss, Teri Gaustad is being remembered not only for the roles she held, but for the joy, compassion, and light she brought into countless lives — qualities friends say made her truly one of a kind.
